NVQ's

Opportunities to work towards NVQ levels 1,2 and 3 are available and we encourage and support employees who take on this commitment. All courses are fully funded by Brend Hotels and time during work is given to talk to tutors. NVQ programmes vary from staff to staff however currently our employees are undertaking NVQs in food and drinks Service, customer service, housekeeping, professional cookery, food preparation and cooking, hospitality supervision, and patisserie and confectionery.

Management Development Training

Our Management Development Training is a work-based programme designed to develop and advance Trainee and Assistant Managers. It has proved to be a very effective training programme that is well received by its students.

The course combines external courses such as:
  • BII National Certificate for personal licence holders
  • First Aid at Work
  • Practical Training Certificate
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene
  • Supervisory Health and Safety
And work-based Modules such as:
  • Roles and Responsibilities of the Manager
  • Effective Team Working
  • Leadership Styles and Skills
  • Performance Management and Appraisals
  • Motivation and Delegation
  • Finance Management
As a manager who has gone through the bespoke Management Programme, I feel that I have a clear career pathway and future with Brend Hotels. Now, I know how to work smarter and have the confidence I need to handle almost any challenge in my daily work as a result.

Student Placements

We welcome students to join us on work-based placements from Colleges and Universities; we have a very successful reputation with students, their tutors, and the colleges/universities, and we are passionate about ensuring the best experience for the student during their placement.

Placements are offered throughout the group in management, front of house, all food and beverage departments as well as Head Office.

I wish to formally thank you and all the members of reception staff for all the help and guidance offered during my industrial Work Experience. My year at The Saunton Sands has proven to be a valuable and enjoyable experience, and has been most beneficial to my personal development and the remainder of my studies.

The Brend Group ‘Chef of the Year’ Competition

Brend Hotels hold an annual competition for chefs; categories include ‘Junior Chef of the Year’ and ‘Senior Chef of the Year’. Without fail, this event proves to be a fabulous demonstration of the skills and flair for food demonstrated within our hotels. We are very proud of our chefs and in particular our superior team of executive chefs, who are dedicated to the training and development of their teams.
